Sometimes a model creeps through the door with little fanfare and a very simple box, yet inside is a jewel that really emphasises how far the hobby has come.

AUTOart’s Porsche 550 is one such model.

Admittedily the shape is so pure and simple that it would be hard to get wrong, but sometimes a model can be far more than the sum of its parts.

From delicate representations of the cast wheels, to the beautiful spoked period steering wheel, each element seem just spot on, not only in scale, but in colour too. Fine photo etch engine grills allow you to sneak a peak at the spare wheel hidden below. The elegant engine cooling louvres, the bulkhead by the drivers legs. All of these things evoke a bygone era when cars were simple, racing just a matter of putting a number on the side of your car and just, well, giving it your best.

And of course there is the colour scheme, simple with just a few sponsors on, but all of those sponsors logos are just so iconic now that the car can’t fail to look cool. Fletcher Aviation, Telefunken, Castrol and of course a nice big splash of bright yellow telling us the car is a Porsche. It’s been many years since Porsche needed to advertise so blatantly!!

Get one NOW, before AUTOart wake up and realise that something quite special has slipped under their radar!
