Autodromo Launch Brian Redman Edition Prototipo

Autodromo have announced a limited edition timepiece celebrating the racing career of Brian Redman. Brian’s remarkable career took place at a time when motorsport was particularly exciting and at times dangerous, during the 1960’s and 70’s. His victories, whilst driving some of the most impressive cars of the time including the Ford GT40, Porsche 908 and 917, Ferrari 321 PB, Alfa Tipo 33 and BMW CSL were inspirational. As well as endurance racing Brian was also Formula 5000 champion from 1974 – 1976. To this day Brian continues to be involved in vintage racing.

The launch of the limited edition Brian Redman Prototipo Chronograph celebrates Brian’s 1969 Nurburgring 1000km race with Jo Siffert.

Picture a young, keen Brian Redman joining the Porsche racing team. Given the choice of being a number one driver in his own car or a number two with Swiss driver Jo Siffert, Brian chose the latter. Together the pair won 5 out of 10 races in 1969 and went on to win 3 out of 10 in the following year!

1969, and Siffert crashes the new Porsche 908 Flunder whilst practicing for the Nurburgring 1000km race. Siffert and Redman had to make do with a spare car entered by Porsch Salzburg. Nevertheless, in this car and wearing the red and white colours of Austria, the Porsche 908/02, Brian and Siffert managed to beat Pedro Rodriguez in a Ferrari to snatch victory.

The unique Brian Redman Prototipo is finished in the same red and white paint scheme as the Porsche Salzburg 908/02. It has a green centre stop hand referencing the bright green accents on the race car that helped to pick it out at a distance.

The caseback features a map of the tortuous Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit which includes along its length more than 170 corners winding through the Eifel Mountains. The Prototipo Brian Redman Edition is delivered in a special edition presentation pack together with a 42 page booklet signed by Brian himself.

500 numbered pieces have been crafted with the first 100 in 18k Gold plate and 400 in a Stainless Steel finish. With real leather racing strap and sapphire crystal dial the Brian Redman edition Prototipo is a truly stunning piece. This edition features a running second hand, Seiko VK63 Chronograph Hybrid Meca-Quartz movement, 1/5 second sweep centre stop hand and mechanical reset.
