Celebrating Canada 150 with Marathon Watches
July 1st 2017 celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada. Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall did travel to Canada to join in the momentous celebration.
We at Page and Cooper have just returned from a fascinating and in-depth trip to Marathon Watch headquarters in Toronto, Canada.
However distant from our chosen suppliers we always invest in gaining comprehensive and hands-on technical knowledge of their product. Of course, at the same time, we were delighted to share in preparations. Marathon watches and their location in Canada are key to the history of the Company and the development of their watches.
Marathons are specifically manufactured to operate under the most extreme conditions. For example, the Marathon Jumbo Day/Date with tritium and English and French date display was developed for the Canadian military and used by search and rescue divers across Canada. The extreme North – South distance is 4,634 km (2,873 miles) and the width is 9,306 km (5,780 miles) so conditions across the country vary greatly.
But, just for a moment let's digress and go back to Marathon's beginnings. Marathon Watch was founded in 1939 by Morris Wein. Morris was a member of a Swiss watchmaking family (Weinstrum Watch, est: 1904).
Marathon supplied watches to North America from their workshops in Switzerland and upon the commencement of WWII began to supply the Allied Forces with watches built to government specifications.
To this day Marathon Watch Company is a proud supplier of military timekeeping devices to the Canadian Armed Forces, US Military and Government and many military and security forces around the world.
Presently, the fourth generation of the Wein family continues their proud tradition. All Marathon watches combine the requirements of military durability with fine Swiss craftsmanship thus guaranteeing the highest levels of quality and accuracy.
For all of us who are watch enthusiasts, it is important to note that Marathon retains their Swiss factory in La Chaux-de-Fonds. They are longstanding and respected members of the Federation de L'industrie horlogere suisse which recognises their expertise, commitment and skill.
Every Marathon Watch, including the very affordable fibreshell models, is manufactured in Switzerland. Today we, Page and Cooper are excitedly the exclusive partners for Marathon Watch in the U.K. and Ireland.
As a special celebration with our Commonwealth neighbours, enjoy a 15% discount on all Marathon watches for the month of July. A great occasion to obtain a fantastic Swiss made watch of your choice which has a genuine military pedigree and all the after sales service which Page and Cooper supplies.
