An evening with Ross Brawn at the BRDC
In 2002 a small group of Lotus enthusiasts held a ‘garden party’ in a traditional British way to raise money for Little Havens Children’s Hospice. Today this band of enthusiasts has grown in support and stature and Page and Cooper are proud to be involved with this wonderful charity.
The annual charity evening held at the Silverstone British Racing Driver’s Club has grown from strength to strength with the fabulous support of some amazing and generous people from the world of motorsport.
This year’s event was no exception with Ross Brawn of Mercedes F1 GP joining us for an evening of fascinating insights into the world of F1. From his early days at Williams, through Benetton, the Schumacher/Ferrari years and right up to date with his involvement with Mercedes F1 and his current drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.
Ross was interviewed by the renowned motoring journalist Alan Henry. Alan and Ross have known each other since 1984 and shared with us many intimate moments from their parallel careers. The ‘Alan and Ross’ show was followed by a charity auction hosted by the jovial Martin Donnelly ex Lotus F1 driver and Lotus ambassador.
Amongst many amazing lots donated by some very generous people were items signed by luminaries such as Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Jackie Stewart, Michael Schumacher and many others. Artist Jack Vettriano donated a Triptych entitled, Tension, Timing, Triumph – Monaco 1971. One of only 57 prints featuring and signed by Jackie Stewart and Jack Vettriano himself. The prints feature Sir Jackie and his wife Helen.
Another interesting lot was the first edition of Cedric Selzer’s self-published book ‘If You've Come Second, You've Lost’. Cedric, Jim Clark’s mechanic gives us a rare and intimate insight into his legendary years at Lotus F1. All of the proceeds of Cedric’s book will be donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care. We urge you to buy a copy. You will be aiding a good cause and helping yourself to a very rare and collectable part of motorsport history.
Sir John Whitmore, famous Le Mans and saloon car driver also auctioned artwork of himself racing a Lotus Cortina in his own inimitable style against Jackie Stewart.
Page and Cooper created a unique piece of artwork for the occasion. Comprising six panels and featuring this year’s Mercedes F1 car in Petronas colours signed by Ross Brawn, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Our ‘in house’ artist was thrilled when the painting was bought by Jean Brawn for display in their own home.
