Sinn celebrates 20 Years of Technical Innovation under the guidance of Lothar Schmidt

Sinn Spezialuhren of Frankfurt am Main, the maker of high quality mechanical watches is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary under chartered engineer Lothar Schmidt’s leadership.

Lothar acquired the business in 1994 and under his leadership a new era began for the company. Quality watches at the best possible prices which quickly became desirable to collectors.

Lothar Schmidt

The Sinn company was small when Lothar assumed control. Sinn occupied just one and a half floors of its headquarters in Frankfurt and employed a grand total of three watchmakers in its service department! Sinn was known for its technical chronographs and cockpit clocks which were, at this time made in Switzerland and sold under the Sinn brand name.

Previous to joining Sinn, Lothar Schmidt had gained much experience in watch technology working for Swiss manufacturers IWC Schaffhausen. He also rebuilt production and technology for A.Lange and Sohne, which was at the time part of the same group.

Much thought was given to Lothar’s decision to take over Sinn Spezialuhren. The company was put on an efficient and sound footing. The range of watches was expanded and the very first new model introduced a theme continued to the present day. Magnetic field protection. This model, the solid titanium 244 also had a freely oscillating and suspended movement.

Under the leadership of Lothar Schmidt, Sinn Spezialuhren has made huge strides. Now there is a workforce of over a hundred at the Frankfurt headquarters. And, the course is set for a future of further expansion. As Lothar says “Most of our development work still lies ahead of us”.
