Albers Automatic Power ReserveModel DF-9010-03 By DuFa
JOSEPH ALBERS (1888-1976) was a influential artist who helped define and cultivate an entire generation of post war artists in the United States. Accomplished as a designer, photographer, typographer and printmaker, he is best remembered and lauded as an abstract painter and theorist on the power of colour in deisign.
His studies and theoretical work gave rise to his proposal of colour rather than form as the predominant pictoral language. In his seminal series Homgage to the Square produced from 1949 until his death, Albers uses a single square shape to explore the vast range of visual effects acheivable through colour and spatial relationship alone.
Albers joined the Weimar Bauhaus in 1920 at the age of 32 eventually becoming a professor or Bauhausmeister in Dessau teaching alongside other Bauhaus stalwarts such as Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky.
