Breuer AutomaticModel DF-9011-06 By DuFa
TAUGHT AND MENTORED by Walter Gropius, Hungarian born Marcel Breuer (1902-1981) studied and taught carpentry at the Weimar Bauhaus but quickly established himself as an iconic talent in his own right.
In 1925, it was Breuer who designed perhaps one of the most iconic pieces of furniture of the 20th Century, the tubular steel and fabric Model B3 chair also known as the Wassily chair. This marvel of design and fabrication embodies the Bauhaus objective of trying to reconcile art and industry.
Breuer would continue his collaboration with his master and mentor Gropius, moving to Harvard to take up a professorship and he would continue to design and evolve his architectural practice, designing important buildings throughout the world but it is in his furniture, which cements his true position as a vanguard of the Bauhaus movement creating pieces that continue to defy time in concept and design.
